The Realm of Memory

What is memory? How has memory been analyzed historically from a scientific, social, philosophical and even literary perspective? What do different approaches to remembering and forgetting have in common? Is it possible to integrate the insights of different disciplines on this matter into a coherent whole and establish venues of cooperation among researchers working in the Sciences and the Humanities? The aim of this website is to create a meeting point for the discussion of these questions and the diffusion of memory research among the general public:  from the construction of the individual and collective past to the study of the ways it is expressed in public ceremonies and works of art. We would also like to invite you to take a look at the work done on this interdisciplinary field of inquiry at McGill University and to learn more about Memory Studies as an academic research program.
